TEXT - GALATIANS 3:13-14
13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:
14 That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
Last Sunday we talked about thanking God for Calvary and we mentioned four important reasons why we should praise God for Calvary, the reasons are; the blood that was shed for us, the stripes by which we were healed, the name that’s above every other name and victory over death. I'm sure someone will ask, is that all? Definitely not all; there is much more. One of the greatest things that happened at Calvary for us will be found in Galatians 3:13-14.
THE BENEFITS OF WHAT HAPPENED AT CALVARY.
1.CHRIST REDEEMED US FROM THE CURSE OF
THE LAW because He hung on a tree for us.
2.HE OBTAINED THE BLESSINGS OF ABRAHAM
FOR US.
The mighty forces operating on earth are always in twos; light and darkness, life and death, blessings versus curses, good versus evil, they come in twos.
In Deuteronomy 30:19, the Almighty God says I have called heaven and earth to bear witness that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing, they come in twos and He gave advice to choose life that you and your children may live.
WHAT IS A CURSE?
A curse is an unseen force that hinders progress and causes efforts to fail with the sole aim of destroying the victim. You will know someone is under a curse when he's almost succeeding but never succeeds. When he tries what everybody has been doing and they are prospering and he ends up in heavy debt. Read Deuteronomy 28:15-68, you will be amazed at the terrible things that a curse can do, if you read it very closely with anointed eyes, it will amaze you that you may see coronavirus there.
EXAMPLES OF WHAT A CURSE CAN DO.
Deuteronomy 28:20-21, the reason a curse comes upon anyone is to see to it that the fellow perish quickly. A curse is a very terrible thing. For example, Joshua pronounced a curse on Jericho in Joshua 6:20-27. You will find the result in 2 Kings 2:19, the elders of the city said to Elisha our city looks beautify on the outside but we have problems within; we have bareness, stillbirth, death and all manners of problems. Genesis 31:26-35, it tells us of what happened when Jacob decided to run from Laban and Laban decided to pursue, when he caught up with Jacob he said, why have you taken my idols? Jacob said let anyone found with the idols die, he pronounced a curse on anyone found with the idol but he was not aware that Rachel had stolen the idols. Genesis 35:16-20, the next pregnancy of Rachel led to her death. A curse flows like a river irresistibly. I decree in a name that is above every other name that if there is any of you under any curse, may that curse be broken now.
When a curse is broken, there could be dramatic changes for the better because it is like a rope binding your hands, feet, womb and brain. 2 Kings 2:19-22, when the people of Jericho told Elisha about their problem, he knew immediately that they were under a curse and under the inspiration of the Most High God, he decided to deal with the curse because he has a higher anointing (double portion of anointing) than Joshua; he asked them to bring salt in a new cruise to the source of their river because when a curse is pronounced on a nation, it goes to the source to begin the destructive work. Elisha threw in the salt and issued a decree; river, you are healed, no more barrenness and death and the Bible says the river was healed until today according to the word that Elisha spoke. On the authority of the Most High God I’m speaking to all my children, any curse that has been flowing down your family line will end today.
Another illustration to show you what happens when a curse is broken can be found in Genesis 49:1-7, Jacob was about to die, he called his children and began to decree upon each and everyone of them, he started with the firstborn and he had done a lot of evil, and the father pronounced on him that even though he is the first born he won't excel and he turned to Levite who had also done some serious damage to the reputation and joy of their father, he said because they were of violent temper, he said they will be scattered in Israel. But something happened along the line in Exodus 32:15-16, when Moses was coming down from the mountain where he had gone to collect the ten commandments, he discovered that the Israelites were worshiping the idol of gold; dancing naked before the idol. When Moses and Joshua came from the mountain and the anger of Moses boiled over, he decided to punish them for their evil, he stood at the gate and asked anyone on the Lord's side to come to him and every members of Levite’s family crossed over to Moses side and through them, he executed judgement on the idol worshippers and God looked down from heaven and saw Levites on His side and God decide to be on his side also. In Numbers 3:5-13, God said to Moses, cause the Levites to draw near me, I have chosen them as my first born. The father said they will be scattered but I will draw them near. If there is a curse operating in your life that makes it difficult for you to stay strong in the Lord, I decree that the curse be broken right now. At Calvary Jesus delivered us from the curses of the law and replaced the curse with the blessings of Abraham.
WHAT IS A BLESSING?
A blessing is the opposite of a curse; a summon to all forces in heaven, earth and underneath the earth, to support somebody so that the fellow will succeed. A good illustration is found in Genesis 27:22-29, it tells you what happened when Isaac was blessing Jacob in error; he told him that the dew of heaven will help him, the fatness of the earth will come to his aid and men and nations will serve him. If there are children of the same mother and one is blessed and others are not, the rest will serve the blessed child. The power of a blessing is tremendous.
THE POWER OF A BLESSING.
1.It leads to rapid promotion; everything you touch will just keep on succeeding so much that people will ask how are you doing it. When a man is cursed, he will be working like an elephant and be eating like a rat but when a man is blessed, even if he is working like a rat, he will be eating like an elephant, just the other way round. Genesis 48:18-20, when Jacob was old and Joseph brought his sons for blessing; Mannaseh the first born and Ephraim the second born and Joseph placed the first born where the right hand of his father will fall so that he can get a double portion blessing that belongs to first born and placed Ephraim the second born where the left hand will fall.
WHY IS THE RIGHT HAND MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE LEFT?
I don’t know. If a man of God wants to bless the two of you, put your head where the right hand will fall, get the blessing first, when we get to heaven we will find out why God did it that way. Jacob crossed his hands and placed the right hand on the head of Ephraim the younger one and the left on Manasseh, the first born, Joseph tried to correct him but he was being guided by the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit Himself will direct a double portion of blessings to your head. He blessed the two children and said the younger will be more successful than the elder. In Deuteronomy 33:13, the Bible tells us that when you are counting the children of Manasseh and you count 1 000 you will count 10, 000 of Ephraim; the younger had prospered ten times than the elder because of the blessing.
2.When you are blessed no human being can curse you; no witch, wizard or false prophet can place a curse on you. In Numbers 23:8, when Balak summons a prophet called Balaam to pronounce a curse on Israel; Balak said to Balaam I know if you curse them I will be able to wipe them out, when Balaam opened his mouth he said how can i curse someone that God has not cursed? If God does not curse you and someone is cursing you, he is wasting his time; If the person cursing you has no delegated (backing) authority from God to curse.
PEOPLE THAT HAVE DELEGATED AUTHORITY TO CURSE.
1.The husband can curse his wife and it will stick, Jacob versus Rachel.
2.A father can curse his children and it will stick because he has parental authority.
3.A pastor can curse you if you do something deserving of a curse because the Bible says a causeless curse shall not come; if you don't do anything deserving of a curse, it doesn't matter the anointing of the fellow, it won't work. If a pastor curses you and you go to the one who ordained him or someone with a superior anointing, he can cancel the curse. For example, Elisha versus the curse of Joshua. If the general overseer curses you, you have to appeal to Jesus Christ for the curse to be removed. If God curses you, the matter is settled, who are you going to appeal to? When you are blessed by God no one can curse you. If God blesses you, when your enemy opens his mouth to pronounce a curse, blessings will flow out. Numbers 23:9-12, instead of Balam cursing Israel, he kept on blessing them.
THE SIGNIFICANT THING THAT HAPPENED AT CALVARY.
Jesus obtained for us Abraham’s blessings, particularly for the gentiles, many rejoice at this passage, they love the blessings of Abraham but they don't want the responsibility that goes with it.
THE BLESSINGS OF ABRAHAM.
Genesis 12:1-3, the Almighty God said to Abraham to leave his father’s house, country and relation and go to where He will send him and then, He will do these seven things.
1. YOU WILL BECOME A GREAT NATION.
Jesus obtained the blessing for us. According to Deuteronomy 1:11, no matter how great you are now, you can be a thousand times greater, if you can see it you can have it. In Genesis 46:26-27, the Bible tells us that all the children of Israel that came to Egypt were 70.
In Exodus 12:37, there were 600 000 men without counting the children when they were leaving Egypt. The almighty God can multiply you a thousand times than you are now.
2. I WILL BLESS THEE, NOT I MAY.
Proverbs 10:22, the blessings of the Lord maketh rich and addeth no sorrow with it. Abraham had nothing when God promised to bless him at home with his wife and Lot. In Genesis 24:34-35, the servant of Abraham said God has blessed my master greatly; he has a flock of animals, silver and gold. The blessings of Abraham are mine and yours which is a definite assurance that if you remain steadfast in Jesus Christ who hung on the tree at Calvary for you, there is no way you can die poor.
3. I WILL MAKE YOUR NAME GREAT.
How can that happen to me? If you are a true christian, you are named after Christ according to Acts 11:26, you already have a name that is above every other name at your disposal. Phillipans 2:9-11. The name of Jesus is a name that’s above every other name, there is no other name in heaven and on earth. There is no other name than the name christian, if you're a christian you are a child of Christ and when the child mentions his name, things happen. If the son or daughter of the president comes to your office and you don't want to see anyone, you will like to see him/her; you will see somebody. There are names that open doors. From now on in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, your name will be opening doors.
4. YOU SHALL BE A BLESSING.
Every christian has been given authority from heaven to be a blessing. Matthew 18:18, you have the power to bind and to loose, that’s a lot of power, if you use it appropriately, everywhere you go, people will be blessed.
5. I WILL BLESS THOSE WHO BLESS YOU.
That means your friends are in for a good time because in Mark:9:41, anyone who gives you a cup of water to drink will not go unrewarded, there will be a reward for giving you a cup of water to drink.
6. I WILL CURSE HIM THAT CURSETH THEE.
You don't need to waste your time praying against your enemies, they are already in trouble. If it is only because of Galatians 6:7-8, the law of harvest that says whatsoever a man sows he shall reap and the harvest is always more than the seed sown. Those who wish you evil are already in trouble.
7. IN THEE SHALL ALL THE FAMILY OF EARTH BE BLESSED.
You won't be just a blessing to your family but to the whole world. In Matthew 28:18-20, Jesus Christ said to the disciples, all power in heaven and on earth has been given to me, you now go to the whole world and be a blessing to them and I will back you up.
WHY DID JESUS GO TO THE CROSS?
WHY DID HE GO TO CALVARY TO DIE FOR YOU AND FOR ME?
Because, according to John 10:18, He says I'm doing this voluntarily; I laid down my life nobody is taking it from me.
WHY? John 15:13, says greater love has no man than this that a man laid down his life for his friends.
WHY DID HE GO ON THE CROSS FOR YOU AND FOR ME?
Love; He loves you and He loves me. There is a banner we used to carry as a young Christian, it says “Smile, Jesus loves you”. We were studying the story of Ruth in Open Heaven Devotional where the mother-in-law said the daughter-in-law should go back and one went back and Ruth said no, and i told my children that the the African elders have a saying “no matter how terrible the situation may be, there will be at least one fellow who will stand by you”. You may not know the fellow but I know the fellow that will stand by me, His name is Jesus. Humans will back out if you are to pass through fire but Jesus Christ said I will never leave you nor forsake you, the love is so great.
WHAT DOES HE EXPECTS FROM YOU AS A RESPONSE TO THAT KIND OF LOVE?
In John 15:9-14, He made it clear in a simple language, if you love me, keep my commandments.
If it pleases God, we will pick it up from there next Sunday as we talk about the secrets of unending success.
WHAT IS YOUR RESPONSE TO GOD’S LOVE?
He is asking for obedience.
Are you obedient to Him?
Do you do everything He asked you to do? Are you still holding back? Examine yourself today and if you have to change your ways, change your ways. He loves you so much that He died for you. Respond in a manner that will make Him happy.
IF YOU HAVE NEVER TASTED THIS LOVE, the invitation is still there, come to Jesus, He will give you rest. David said taste and see that the Lord is good. There is no love like that of the Lord Jesus Christ. There is no friend like Him; when everybody is walking out, Jesus will stand by you, but if He is stretching his hands of love to you and you say you don't want, He won't force you but do yourself a favour, the best friend you can ever have is Jesus Christ.
PRAYER FOR SALVATION.
If you are listening anywhere in the world and you want to respond to His love by surrendering your life to Him, I will ask you to bow your head and I will be praying for you in a moment and after you have surrender your life to Jesus Christ, please, find a way of communicating with me so that i will know you have done so and i will continue to pray for you. If you want to give your life to Jesus, bow your head and talk to Him; Oh God of love, thank You for loving me so much; thank You for Calvary, I surrender my life to you, please, receive me, save my soul, forgive all my sins and I will be Your friend for the rest of my life.
Those of us who have already given our lives to Jesus, please, intercede for them; pray that the One who saved your soul will save theirs also. Pray that as they have come to taste the Lord, they will find Him good and sweet. Pray that they will never look back.
Thank You Father.
In Jesus’ mighty name we have prayed.
LET'S PRAY.
My Father and my God; I want to thank You for Your word, I want to thank You for this period when we could have time to study Your word, thank You for everything You did for us at Calvary, particularly for redeeming us from curses and giving us the blessings. Receive all these Your children who are surrendering their lives today. Forgive all their sins. Save their souls. Write their names in the book of life. Receive them into the family of God. From now on, each time they cry unto You, You will answer them by fire. Father, I'm committing everyone of us into Your hands today, let curse become stranger to us. Let us begin to enjoy all the blessings of Abraham.
Thank You my Father and my God.
In Jesus' mighty name we have prayed.
AMEN!
Praise the Lord.

HALLELUJAH!
God bless you!
