THE MESSAGE
TEXT - James 1:12-16
12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.
13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:
14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
16 Do not err, my beloved brethren.

We are living in the day of relentless temptation, our adversary has powerful technology to glamorise sin. Temptation is not the same as sin; sometimes, being tempted makes us feel dirty but temptation is not sin. Jesus was tempted severally but He does not contaminate Himself with sin.

WHAT IS TEMPTATION?
Temptation is the seduction to evil; solicitation to do wrong thing, it is different from trial because trial seeks to discover the moral quality of a man but temptation persuades evil to ruin the fellow. Once you have determined to live a life that pleases God, you are the prime target for temptation. In Peter 5:8, the word of the Lord said Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

The devil doesn't care about a nominal christian that is not living according to the will of God but about a man that is living for God. The trap of the enemy will not capture us in the name of Jesus. A life living for Jesus will be attacked, 2 Timothy 3:12, Paul cried loud to Timothy, Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. The remedy to satan’s attack when we are tempted is what Romans 13:14 said But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

Before you give in to temptation and things that look enticing, think about the consequences; what will happen to your testimonies in the eyes of others, what will happen if your leaders find out, what will happen if others find out and what will happen if your spouse or somebody who is dear to you finds out.

1.THE SCHEMES OF THE SERPENT.
Satan and his kingdom are well organised and they make use of various schemes, strategies, techniques and technology to check and test people. 2 Corinthians 2:1, Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

i.Enticement scheme; satan will package common things and present it in a special way to you. Judges 16:1, Samson saw an harlot and went in to her.

Genesis 3:1-10, Eve has been in the garden with fruit but satan used subtlety and posed a question to her. Verse 1- Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
Verse 6 - And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
The devil used an enticement scheme.

ii. Persistent scheme.
The devil can bring multiple temptations at the same time like the case of Jesus. Luke 4:1-3, He told Jesus to turn stone to bread after fasting for 40 days.
He came again and promised to give Jesus things He can see, Jesus rebuked him.
Satan took Him to the pinnacle of the temple the third time; be careful when the devil continues to flatter you and be careful of unnecessary titles.
Genesis 39:7-20, Devil keeps on repeating one temptation severally; lie with me.
Devil can't be tired and will not give up on his business, as christans, we have to be on guard always by watching and praying.

iii.Deceiving scheme; devil can hide his identity by transforming to an angel of light. 1 Kings 13:1-23, verse 18 - He said unto him, I am a prophet also as thou art; and an angel spake unto me by the word of the Lord, saying, Bring him back with thee into thine house, that he may eat bread and drink water. But he lied unto him. God sent a man to prophesy on the altar of evil in another town, another prophet came and deceived the man.

TWO TERRIBLE LIES THAT SATAN WANTS YOU TO BELIEVE.
1.He wants you to believe that just once will not hurt; fornication, adultery, stealing … once
2.Now that you have done it and you have ruined your life there is no remedy, God has forsaken you and you cannot do anything.
You must be weary of deception of the enemy.

iv. Despising scheme; when the devil makes people think sin does not matter like wearing worldly and revealing dresses, ...
Esau felt it didn't matter and he lost his birthright permanently. Genesis 25:29-34,
verse 34 -Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentiles; and he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way: thus Esau despised his birthright.
Our salvation is priceless, don't despise it, Jesus paid for it. Philippians 2:8.

v. Majority scheme - judging things right by the acceptance of majority.
When you deal with God, the majority may not win but the devil uses the majority scheme.
2 Chronicles 18:4-34, Micaiah did not prophesy like the majority of the prophets.
Verse 18 - Then he said, I did see all Israel scattered upon the mountains, as sheep that have no shepherd: and the Lord said, These have no master; let them return therefore every man to his house in peace.

vi. Secretive scheme.
The devil makes us comfortable to do things as long as nobody finds out but nothing is hidden from God. Acts 5:1-10, Ananias and Sapphira lie and they die.
Genesis 39:7-20, Joseph overcame because he was able to remind himself not to sin against God. verses 9 There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?
God will give you power to overcome sin in Jesus’ name.

2.THE STRENGTH OF THE SAINT.
i .Trust in God.
God will help you; He will neither leave you nor forsake you, He is your strength and buckler.
Psalm 125:1, They that trust in the Lord shall be as mount Zion, which cannot be removed, but abideth for ever.
1 John 4:4, … greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. You are on the winning side.

2. Be humble.
If you are not humble you will crumble. James 4:10, As long as you are proud and think you can fight sin on your own you may not be able to move forward. When you think you are so strong that sin can't touch you, then you have set yourself up to fail. Samson thought he could move from one sin to another but he didn't know that God had left him.

3. Resist temptation.
James 4:7, resist temptation and don't play with sin.

4. Flee.
When you are tempted with fornication and adultery, you need to flee.
If you are struggling with lust, stay away from phonography or any situation that could entice you. 1 Corinthians 6:18, flee from sexual immorality. 2 Timothy 2:22, flee the evil desire of youth.

5. Embrace the truth.
Jesus is the word from the beginning; He is the Way, the Truth and the Life. John 14:6.
John 8:31-32, you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.
The Bible remains the helpful book to conquer in times of temptation.
Luke 4:1-13, resist the devil with the word of God.

6. Pray.
Prayer is of a great help in temptation, Matthew 6:13, And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:
Matthew 26:41, the spirit is willing but the body is weak,if we pray He will send help to us.

7.Embrace the love of God; Proverbs 18:17, love is the unique glory of christianity. John 3:16, Jeremiah 31:3.
Deal with temptation realistically and ruthlessly Matthew 26:41, 1 Corinthians 10:13.
Deal with temptation immediately.
ii.Deal with temptation realistically and ruthlessly. Matthew 26:41, watch and pray that ye enter not into temptation. Mark 9:43.

3.THE SUCCOR OF THE SAVIOUR.
i. Jesus as an example.
Hebrews 4:15, For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

ii.The Holy Spirit.
One of the reasons why we are baptised in the Holy Spirit is to have power to say no to the devil and resist the temptation of sin. Acts 1:8, Ye shall receive power when the Holy Ghost comes upon you. Luke 10 :19, Behold, i give unto you power.

iii. A way of escape.
You can overcome temptation 1 Corinthians 10:13, God will make a way out of temptation but we must be active in finding the door out of temptation.

iv. Admonition by the Biblical saints.
The story of saints in the Bible can help us. Malachi 3:6, the same God yesterday, today and forever. Hebrews 13:8.

v. Reward for overcomers.
Anyone that conquered will be crowned with the crown of life.
All these can motivate us to overcome temptation.
Don't fall into temptation.
1 John 2:1-2, because of the sacrifice of Jesus, You can be forgiven.
Micah 7:8, Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the Lord shall be a light unto me.
As a believer, it's high time to rise against temptation.
If you have missed it before you can adjust.

LET’S PRAY
Tell the Lord: Lord, I'm here, wash me, cleanse me, I want to follow You for the rest of my life, thank You eternal Father, in Jesus’ mighty name we have prayed.
Thank You for the people that are giving their lives, I pray Oh God as a baby is being born in Your maternity today, cleanse them, wash them, write their names in the book of life, remove whatever is not allowing them to come to You today. Give them strength to serve You from this day onward.
Give them power to overcome temptation.
Raise those who are falling.
Give us power to live victoriously.
Touch everyone that needs a special touch in their spiritual life.
Let's reign with You in the kingdom of the righteous.
In Jesus’ mighty name we have prayed.
AMEN!

God bless you!
