THE MESSAGE
RUTH 1:1-6
1 Now it came to pass in the days when the judges ruled, that there was a famine in the land. And a certain man of Bethlehemjudah went to sojourn in the country of Moab, he, and his wife, and his two sons.
2 And the name of the man was Elimelech, and the name of his wife Naomi, and the name of his two sons Mahlon and Chilion, Ephrathites of Bethlehemjudah. And they came into the country of Moab, and continued there.
3 And Elimelech Naomi's husband died; and she was left, and her two sons.
4 And they took them wives of the women of Moab; the name of the one was Orpah, and the name of the other Ruth: and they dwelled there about ten years.
5 And Mahlon and Chilion died also both of them; and the woman was left of her two sons and her husband.
6 Then she arose with her daughters in law, that she might return from the country of Moab: for she had heard in the country of Moab how that the Lord had visited his people in giving them bread.
Verse 1 there was a famine in the land.
A famine signifies a period of extreme shortage of food in a region, severe shortage or lack of anything at all
HOW TO IDENTIFY FAMINE ACCORDING TO THE SCRIPTURES
1. 2kings 6:26-29 People will do anything to survive in the time of famine. Abundance of corruption is a sign of famine.
2. 2Kings 7:4 Every option looks impossible. We are surrounded with impossible choices during famine.
3. Money fails. Genesis 47:15b, Ecclesiastes 10:9b, Ecclesiastes 7:12, future look blick.
There will be a turnaround Job 14:7-9
No matter the famine in Bethlehem going to Moab is not an option. Bethlehem means house of bread, for every believer your allocation is in a location, the location is in Christ Jesus, Ephesians 1:3.
It's not an option to compromise/cut corners because things are hard/difficult.
WHY DO WE NEED TO HOLD ON TO HOPE
1. Psalms 30:5b
2. Proverbs 24:16 A knock down is not a knock out except you refuses to stand again.
3. A man that has hope can’t be put to shame. Romans 5:5 - For your shame you will receive double glory.
4 You can’t give what you do not have. Colossian 1:27 If you don’t have Christ you don’t have hope. John 1:1-3 You can't declare what you have not experienced.
5 That a man is admired my men does not mean he’s acceptable to God. A man that does not have God is going nowhere. Our priorities need to be right.
HOW TO FIND HOPE
1John 7:37, Romans 15:13 Look to the Lord.
HOW TO KEEP HOPE ALIVE
1. Stay praying- prayerlessness is the greatest declaration of independence from God. Luke 8
2. Stay on the word.
3. Know how to engage the Holy spirit. Isaiah 28:11-12, John 4:10, James 4:2.
